 2016 Preview 


       Decatur Heritage Christian completed the 2015 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Decatur Heritage Christian captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Eagles. Decatur Heritage Christian made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Cedar Bluff team by the score of 53-40.

       No team at Decatur Heritage Christian ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 535 points scored by the Eagles last year were a team record in a single season. The Eagles hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Meek saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 6-5 record in 2014.

       Since 2010, Decatur Heritage Christian has gone a combined 31-32. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       The Eagles are led by head coach Steve Meek who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-25 over the past five seasons at Decatur Heritage Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Meek.

       Coach Meek's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 47-58 (44.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Meek's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship.

       The Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 1A but move from region eight over to region seven.

       The Eagles enter the 2016 season riding a 9 game regular season winning streak. Decatur Heritage Christian has won 6 consecutive region games. They have won 7 straight games on their home turf at Bulldog Stadium, Priceville.

       The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Eagles open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Falkville on Friday, August 19 at Bulldog Stadium, Priceville. Last year the Falkville Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 2A region six. The Blue Devils lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Randolph County by a score of 56-27.

       Decatur Heritage Christian and Falkville have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 2-6-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2015 with Falkville winning by a score of 60-37.

       Decatur Heritage Christian returns 1A All-State Senior quarterback Grayson Wakefield. He was named to the first team last season.
